The recent rainfall in Melbourne has exceeded the average for September.  It is now more important than ever to drought proof our gardens and landscapes to lock in the recent soil moisture from the spring rains.  This can be done through applying mulch to garden beds (minimum of 75mm depth) and the inclusion of water storage crystals or wetting agents (readily available from local garden nurseries).  Water tanks to capture rainfall and efficient irrigation systems such as drip, are examples of how we can reduce our reliance on potable drinking water and become more sustainable in our own backyards.
