The Melbourne CBD and immediate surrounds are appropriate places for well-designed high-rise buildings and the Minister for Planning, Matthew Guy, has made it clear that he will continue supporting such development.  This type of development should not occur however, if it is at the expense of established and valued planning policies. If the proposed office tower at 555 Collins Street, Melbourne will in part overshadow the Yarra River, it should be re-considered.  Surely the value and amenity of the Yarra River Corridor outweighs the benefit of a single building project?
