_LAST STRAW OR OPPORTUNITY – NEVERTHELESS THE HUMAN FACE

A friend of mine has been advised that her property is likely to be acquired for the East West Link.

She has had a difficult year, with a lot of change, and her house has been the one constant (and a bit of a refuge) during this time.

While my friend is a pragmatist (though more of a public transport / bike user than a private car user) and expects that she will eventually come to see the opportunities provided by the situation, at the moment it feels like the last straw.

 It is a timely reminder to me that people potentially affected by proposed developments are individuals with their own (often unknown) stories and need to be treated with appropriate sensitivity.
