_TALLEST RESIDENTIAL TOWER IN MELBOURNE COMMENCES CONSTRUCTION
Construction has begun on what will be the tallest residential building in the central city after planning approval was granted earlier this year. The 226 metres high tower known as ‘Vision’, is being constructed on the corner of Elizabeth Street and Therry Street and is in close proximity to the Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne Central and Melbourne and RMIT Universities.
The building will comprise 542 apartments over 72 floors and is capable of accommodating 1,000 residents who will have use of function and meeting rooms, a pool, gym, spa and a private cinema.
Planning Minister, Matthew Guy, stated that new apartment buildings in well serviced locations such as Vision are a key component of the recently released Plan Melbourne, the metropolitan planning strategy. One of the goals of Plan Melbourne is for the central city to become the largest commercial and residential centre in Australia by 2040. (Note: We are not sure why this should be a goal: quantity verse quality?)
Construction of Vision is expected to finish in early 2016.
