_MELBOURNE: NOW AND THEN
Happening concurrently two exhibitions – Melbourne Now and Postcode 3000 are definitely worth a look.
One, a sprawling exposition celebrating art and design in Melbourne, which has been mounted by the National Gallery of Victoria and draws on a proposition that Melbourne has been shaped and is grounded to a significant extent by ‘artists, designers, architects, choreographers, intellectuals and community groups’.
The other, mounted by Melbourne City Council is a single room narrative of the blossoming of the City of Melbourne as a desirable place to live.
Both events draw on the belief that Melbourne is now a very attractive/liveable place for many. While there are qualifications to this notion that Melbourne is one of the most liveable cities in the world today, these exhibitions provide absorbing considerations.
