_Elizabeth Street Revamp
The City of Melbourne has finalised plans to redevelop a section of the southern end of Elizabeth Street in the central business district of Melbourne. The finalised plans will involve the permanent closure of the southbound traffic lane of Elizabeth Street between Flinders Street and Flinders Lane.
The closure, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2020, is aimed at increasing the space available for pedestrians as indicated in the indicative image below and consideration of improvements to the unsatisfactory tram terminus spacing at the Elizabeth / Flinders Streets intersection. The works will include streetscape improvements such as footpath extensions and upgrades, new street furniture, landscaping and lighting.
As part of the works, The City of Melbourne will also be installing a new underground drainage network to assist in managing water flows during flooding events.
Collie looks forward to the completion of the project and applauds the City of Melbourne for taking the initiative to improve an area of Melbourne which in our opinion, is in much need of revitalisation.
