_Heritage Exemption
Collie recently assisted a client in obtaining an exemption from Heritage Victoria for buildings and works associated with a new office tenancy fit-out at the former Carlton and United Brewery on the corner of Victoria Street and Bouverie Street, Carlton.
As part of the new fit-out, works were proposed to the roof in order to install new services for the office. Given that the former Carlton and United Brewery is listed on the Victorian Heritage register, the proposed works required either an exemption from Heritage Victoria or a heritage permit.
The Collie role included:
- review of the relevant provisions of the site specific heritage controls and Heritage Victoria exemption guidelines to determine if an exemption was possible;
- preparation and submission to Heritage Victoria of an exemption application for the proposed works;
- monitoring of the application and consultation with officers to achieve the end result: an exemption for the proposed works.
