With just weeks left until the 2022 Victorian election, we thought we’d provide an overview of the some of the planning and development commitments made by the major parties during the campaign.

Some of the notable commitments made by the Australian Labour Party include:

  • redeveloping, expansion and upgrading a number of hospitals, including the Wonthaggi Hospital, Maroondah Hospital, Austin Hospital at Heidelberg and Northern Hospital at Epping;
  • expanding and upgrading a number of primary and secondary schools;
  • improving train services to the western suburbs in Melbourne;
  • developing a new TAFE for Melton;
  • delivering cheaper public transport fares;
  • purchasing more VLocity trains;
  • adding weekend services on the regional rail links.

Some of the notable commitments made by the Liberal / National coalition of parties include:

  • building a number of new hospitals at Melton, Mildura, West Gippsland and Albury-Wodonga;
  • revitalisation of the waterfront at Warrnambool;
  • improving the efficiency and reliability of the State freight network;
  • rebuilding the Victorian road network and improving road maintenance;
  • upgrading Beaconsfield Station;
  • redeveloping and upgrading a number of primary and secondary schools;
  • planting more trees across Melbourne;
  • revitalising local shopping strips;
  • providing free public transport for Victorian nurses and delivering $2 daily train, train and bus fares on non V/Line services.

Some of the notable commitments made by the Australian Greens include:

  • developing new renewable energy and storage infrastructure to replace coal and gas;
  • kickstarting the clean transport revolution;
  • inquiring into the Victoria planning system;
  • providing more frequent train and tram services across greater Melbourne and regional Victoria;
  • delivering 200,000 new accessible and sustainable public and affordable homes and upgrading existing public housing units;
  • improving accessibility of public transport.
