_RECONFIGURATION – OR BLAST FROM THE PAST

As was generally expected, a number of changes to Ministry and departmental structures have been made since the Victorian State Election last year notably, with the disbandment of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP).

The planning arm of the State Government has been re-positioned with transport in a new Department of Transport and Planning (DTP), which will oversee key planning and land use activities and policy functions within one ‘super Department’.

DELWP on the other hand has been renamed to Department of Energy, Environment and Climate (DEECA) with a focus on issues relating to its title.

It will be interesting to see how, these new Departments will function within the existing planning and policy framework and whether or not we will see improved ‘efficiencies’ of these sectors moving forward.  It should be noted of course that everything old is new again, with planning now moving back to its previous link with transport – at least until the next change.
