An interesting snippet in a recent VCAT decision, which noted in the particular case that

“An important element in the area is the railway from Princes Bridge to Clifton Hill. It opened . . .  on a continuous elevated embankment which eliminated the need for level crossings. The access provided by the railway boosted the residential development of the surrounding area . . . “.

Sounds very familiar in the context of level crossing removals in the present time.  It actually refers to construction in 1901. 

Perhaps a VCAT case in 200 years will be quoting the construction of a Melbourne Airport rail link in 2101!
