_New Sustainable Dwelling in a Bushfire Management Overlay

Collie recently assisted the client in obtaining a planning permit for the construction and use of a new dwelling in Thowgla Valley, located in the Victorian High Country, affected by a Bushfire Management Overlay.

As part of the site is covered extensively by native vegetation and backs onto state forest, the project had some implications from a bushfire risk perspective, which involved the removal of some native vegetation to create an area of ‘defendable space’ around the footprint of the proposed dwelling.

The dwelling is to be completely off-grid and has been designed in collaboration with Cooee Architects, a local architecture firm who specializes in designing low-carbon resilient homes and Tasmanian based Valley Workshop, who specializes in sustainable, energy efficient prefab houses.  This project will be the first for Valley Workshop on the ‘mainland’.

We are pleased to advise that we were successful in obtaining a planning permit and look forward to the development commencing.
