_New Paspaley Retail Façade Approved
Collie was engaged to assist Paspaley in obtaining multiple planning approvals for its proposed new retail premises in the ground floor of ‘Kurrajong House’ in Collins Street, Melbourne.
Kurrajong House is included on the Victorian Heritage Inventory and affected by heritage overlays in the Melbourne Planning Scheme. It was built in the early twentieth century and represents the beginnings of the modern architectural movement in Melbourne, complemented by a number of other similarly styled buildings in the surrounds.
Collie worked with Melbourne-based Arkhe Tekhne architects in collaboration with Carbondale, based in Paris, in seeking approval to changes to the façade on Collins Street and new signs which tie in with the Paspaley branding.

The Collie role included:
- review of the relevant provisions of the Melbourne Planning Scheme and advice to Paspaley and Arkhe Tekhne;
- seeking planning exemptions and Melbourne City Council (Council) satisfaction on certain aspects of the proposal which did not need a planning permit;
- review of architectural plans and providing suggestions to maximise approval changes;
- preparation and submission of a planning permit application to Council;
- the monitoring of the application, consultation and negotiation with Council to achieve the required permit.
Collie is pleased that the permit has now been issued and looks forward to the new Paspaley store opening.
