_Melbourne Transport Upgrades

Well, after a long wait and in one case years of traffic arrangement changes, delays and chaos, we are finally about to see the opening of two major transport changes in Melbourne, Victoria.

The long-awaited new underground (with its five new stations) is about to open (but initially with restricted times) to join north of the CBD to south of the CBD and alleviate congestion on tram lines and in the existing Metro tunnel.  Congratulations to the Victorian Government on planning and implementing this high cost but essential new service.

Similarly, the long overdue road tunnel / overhead new freeway link from the Westgate Freeway to the Tullamarine Freeway will provide any easier choice for truck and car traffic wanting to travel between those two points or to join the new link along its path.  The concern is the western end of this new link to Laverton in afternoon peak times especially for westbound traffic and the existing congestion that will only increase; not dissimilar the intersection of the Tullamarine and Westgate Freeways east of the Westgate Bridge.
